How to select the right Red Star AIV / JIV intake valve

These are the Red Star intake valves we keep in stock, in the two naming families the Red Star catalogue actually uses. Choose by bore and flow, then by the options your controller needs.

  • AIV series — AIV-25 (0.5–1.5 m³/min), AIV-40 (1–2.5), AIV-50 (2.5–4.5), AIV-65 (4–7), AIV-85 (7–14), AIV-100 (10–16), AIV-120 (16–25).
  • JIV series — JIV-40, JIV-50, JIV-65, JIV-85. Same bores, different body and control arrangement; when a customer asks for JIV by name, quote JIV — do not substitute an AIV.
  • Rating — maximum working pressure 16 bar, medium temperature −20 to 120 °C, ambient −20 to 60 °C.
  • Options — non-return function and ON/OFF control are standard on the whole range; stepless flow control is optional. Solenoid coil voltage is specified at order.

Installation and maintenance

  • Check the flange bolt pattern and the O-ring groove against the old valve before fitting — Red Star bodies changed over the years and two valves with the same bore do not always share a flange.
  • The check element must close on shutdown. Test by stopping the machine under load and looking for oil at the filter housing.
  • Keep the pilot air dry: fit the filter on the control line, otherwise the solenoid sticks in cold weather and the valve stays partly open.
  • Do not re-use the O-ring. A hardened O-ring that looks fine will leak as soon as the machine reaches working temperature.

Red star aiv / jiv intake valve FAQ

No. They are two families in the Red Star catalogue with different bodies and control arrangements, although the bores overlap. If your machine was built with a JIV, fit a JIV — an AIV of the same bore will not necessarily match the flange or the pilot port.

Look at the flow at your working pressure rather than the motor rating: AIV-40 covers 1–2.5 m³/min and AIV-50 covers 2.5–4.5 m³/min. A 22 kW machine at 8 bar usually sits on AIV-50.

Yes — the standard accessory set includes the solenoid valve and the filter. Tell us the coil voltage you need (AC220 V 50 Hz is the default) and we set the valve up for that.
