How to select the right Hanbell one-stage airend

Hanbell one-stage airends are sold in four families, and the family matters as much as the size — two models with the same bore and the same flow can have very different prices.

  • AA series — 7.5–315 kW, 1–60 m³/min, 6–16 bar. The general range, belt drive on the small sizes.
  • AB series — 7.5–315 kW, 1–60 m³/min, 6–13 bar. Direct coupled on the larger sizes.
  • AB+ series — 7.5–37 kW, 1–6 m³/min, 6–10 bar. Compact bodies for small machines.
  • AC series — 7.5–315 kW, 1–60 m³/min, 6–10 bar. The economic range; same mounting, lower price.

Pick the model from the air flow you need at your working pressure, then check the shaft power and the specific power (kW per m³/min) at that point. The tables above list each model at 8 bar; flow falls and shaft power rises as the pressure goes up.

Installation and maintenance

  • Belt-drive models need the pulley ratio set by the supplier — do not change it to chase more flow, the rotor speed and the bearing life are matched to it.
  • Check the coupling or pulley alignment after the first 100 hours; most early airend noise is alignment, not bearings.
  • Keep the oil temperature and the oil flow in range. A one-stage airend that runs hot loses flow long before it fails.
  • Start unloaded and let the machine idle for a few minutes below 10 °C ambient.

Hanbell one-stage airend FAQ

Both are one-stage airends with the same mounting pattern; the AC is the economic build for 6–10 bar duty and costs noticeably less, while the AB covers up to 13 bar and is the usual choice for heavier duty.

Yes, and you will get more flow at the lower pressure. The opposite is not true: an 8 bar airend run at 10 bar loses flow and runs hotter, and the motor may be overloaded.

The bare airend is supplied without them unless you ask; we can quote the coupling, the pulley and the mounting brackets together so the assembly matches.
