How to select the right axial fan

Axial fans are the flat, high-flow fans used on the cooler and on the canopy of smaller machines. Two model families are stocked: YSWF for 380 V three-phase and YYWF for 220 V single-phase, in impeller sizes from 200 to 630 mm.

  • Air flow — roughly 830 m³/h on the 200 mm size up to about 13,000 m³/h on the 630 mm size.
  • Speed — the -2- models run at about 2300–2600 rpm, the -4- models at about 1350–1400 rpm, the -6- models at about 900 rpm.
  • Noise — 45–78 dB(A); the 6-pole versions are the quiet ones and are what you fit when the machine stands in a working area.
  • Certification — CE on the whole range, with the net weight listed per model.

Installation and maintenance

  • Axial fans are sensitive to obstruction: keep at least one impeller diameter of free space in front of the guard, otherwise the flow collapses and the noise rises.
  • Mount with the airflow arrow pointing the way the machine was designed. On a cooler the fan normally pulls air through the core and out of the canopy.
  • Use the supplied mounting holes, not self-tapping screws into the shroud — a distorted ring rubs the blade tips.
  • For single-phase models, check the capacitor value against the table; a wrong capacitor overheats the winding.

Axial fan FAQ

YSWF is the 380 V three-phase version and YYWF is the 220 V single-phase version with a capacitor. Same impeller, different motor.

Usually the fan was refitted with a distorted shroud or too little clearance, or a 6-pole fan was replaced with a 4-pole one. Compare the model number on the old fan with the new one before blaming the bearing.

Only if the opening in the canopy is enlarged to match. A larger fan behind a small opening moves less air than the original and makes more noise.
