کمپرسورهای هوای پیچ دوار روغن‌کاری‌شده، روغن را با هوای ورودی مخلوط می‌کنند تا پیچ‌های کمپرسور روغن‌کاری شوند. پس از فشرده‌سازی هوا، یک جداکننده هوا/روغن، هوای فشرده را از روغن کمپرسور جدا می‌کند. روان‌کار کمپرسور در پایین مخزن جداکننده جمع می‌شود و هوای فشرده به مخزن هوا ادامه می‌دهد. یک جداکننده استاندارد پیچ دوار، میزان روان‌کار همراه با هوای فشرده را به 2-3 ppm کاهش می‌دهد. در شرایط عملیاتی عادی، عمر مفید جداکننده روغن 4000 تا 6000 ساعت کارکرد است.
